Oil filter
An oil filter on an engine cleans the engine oil from dirt and particles and is necessary for the engine to function over time. There are two types of oil filters:
Insert filter – replaceable filter element placed in a filter housing.
Screw filter – complete metal casing that is screwed directly onto the engine.
Products
Insert filter is used in modern cars where the oil filter is placed in a fixed filter housing that is part of the engine. Most common in newer car models where there is no room for a screw filter.
Screw filter Generally, a 13/16" thread is used where a larger filter is required for higher oil flow and 3/4" on engines with lower flow.
M20x1.5 is often used in cars from manufacturers like Volkswagen, BMW, and Toyota.
M18x1.5 is used on smaller engines and some Asian models.
3/4" -16 UNF thread is often used on older American cars, some European and Asian vehicles, as well as smaller trucks and off-road vehicles. This size is common on medium-capacity engines.
13/16" -16 UNF is mainly used on larger engines, such as V8 engines in American vehicles, larger trucks, or SUVs, where oil flow requirements are higher.
1" -16 UNF is used on larger engines and some older models.
7/8" -16 UNF less common, but found on some specific engines.
